We are living in unprecedented times. No doubt about it. From social distancing to shortages of toilet paper, Covid-19 has changed the way we live our lives.  

Back in March, the message went out that all non-essential medical care should be postponed. That was done, at least in part, to ensure that the limited supply of PPE (personal protective equipment) could be reserved for the frontline healthcare workers who needed it most. The supply of PPE is still not where we would like it, but the critical shortages that forced nurses to wear trash bags in an attempt to protect themselves have been eased. 

As the pandemic wears on, patients are being encouraged to get the medical and dental care they need. As the Washington Post reports, there is some medical and dental care that experts say you should not postpone, “Now that it’s clear that the coronavirus waves are going to keep coming.” 

The Post named five specific types of care that you shouldn’t put off, including 

1. Cancer Screenings
2. Dental Visits
3. Physical Therapy
4. Blood Tests
5. Emergency Room Visits

 You may have seen public service announcements running on television, urging people to go to the emergency room if they think they might be having a heart attack. Many patients have been hesitant to go to the ER because of fears of being exposed to Covid-19 patients. Hospitals have had the time now to establish safety protocols, so you should definitely go and get checked out if you are having symptoms of a heart attack.
